Jay was amazing from the start. He helped me with my confidence of driving and driving itself. I was very nervous after starting to learn but after a few lessons Jay knew when to push for more when I doubted myself and always had the confidence in me that I needed to find in myself. He was patient and calm even in a stressful situation which made me feel I could always rely on him while driving. When I made mistakes instead of saying you did this wrong he asked me what I thought I could have done better or how I could have changed that situation. I was very nervous on my first lesson but Jay instantly put me at ease with his calm approach and ability to have a laugh in the car. Jay got me driving on the first lesson and kept the theory side of things very short.
The briefings on roundabouts, one-way systems etc were kept very short by Jay yet they were still very understandable. Jay was more than happy to adjust to the pace that he taught at based on how well I understood things and he answered any questions I had in great detail. I began with having 1 2hr lessons a week and began 2 2hr lessons a week a short while after, (this was my choice and Jay said I could do as many or as little hours a week as I wanted as long as he could fit it into his schedule. Jay never turned up late and never cancelled a lesson in the 4-month period I spent learning with him. Each lesson began with Jay asking me what I wanted to learn and offered advice on what we should do if I was unsure. He helped me progress in my driving significantly, increasing my confidence and driving ability as the lessons went on.
I knew I could always text Jay morning or night with any questions or concerns I had, or to re-arrange any lessons. Jay always remained calm in the car whilst making sure that other road users and myself were very safe. I booked my test on the 1st November 2017 for the nearest available date which was the 11th January 2018 Jay made his timetable work around my test date and ensured that I could have as long as I needed before my test to warm up, he even turned up slightly early on the day of my test, free of charge to ensure I was fully prepared . I had two different locations at which I would meet Jay, one being my college (Farnborough sixth form) and the other being my house (Blackwater). I knew that I could text Jay to change location at any time and Jay would be happy to do so every time.
When with Jay we progressed at a speed of which I felt comfortable and safe, it really felt like we both decided the lesson plans rather than Jay choosing what we did. I would recommend anyone to Jay Highley who was thinking of learning in a manual car. You can guarantee a laugh in the car and enjoyable driving lessons, at a very cheap price ( I paid 270 for a block of 10 hours) which is much cheaper than most quotes that I got. I passed my test with 0 minors and I really do believe this was down to Jay. Before my test Jay took me into the shop and brought me some food and a drink to put me at ease and that shows exactly what sort of instructor he is, he really does go above and beyond.
